It shows that, since 2021, information has regularly come in from veterinarians about high levels of ammonia in the place where pigs are kept waiting for slaughter. In 2023, several checks were carried out and the company was told to do something about the environment. The veterinarians who did the checks could feel how it burned in their throats and noses when they were in the room.
Siljan's chark is at risk of being fined or even banned from having animals if they don't rectify this by January 1, 2024.
We have followed this up with the County Administrative Board, who say that they do not know whether the deficiencies have been rectified, as no check has been made.
We urge the County Administrative Board to do its job and check that these deficiencies have been rectified, and if not, we believe that Siljans Chark should be banned from having animals.
This has been going on for several years. Hundreds of pigs every day have been forced to lie there in the ammonia for hours before being gassed to death.
