STOP "DONKEY TAXI" IN MIJAS PUEBLO

The 'Mijas Burros' are suffering and need our help.
The Mijas Burro Taxi is a taxi service located in Mijas Pueblo, Málaga, Spain. Burros, also described as a small donkey used as a pack animal, are usually known for being able to carry heavy loads. Tourists all over the world visit the village to take a donkey ride through the beautiful village. But if these tourists knew about the living conditions of these donkies, most of them would probably reconsider.
The donkies are tightly bound with ropes to a strict area, where they stand for 24 hours a day. Besides carrying too heavy loads daily, resulting in chronic problems, the Mijas donkies are being kicked by the owners when they refuse to move caused by health issues. The donkies scream of anxiety and pain when they realise it’s their turn to take a tourist on their backs. Organisations and private individuals are fighting for the rights of the Mijas donkies, but most of them are being scared away by the owners of The Mijas Burro Taxi, who have threatened the fighters.
When visiting this horrible business in June 2021, it became very clear to us that previous measures unfortunality had no significant effect of the donkies well-being. What’s going on in Mijas Pueblo can’t be described as anything but pure animal abuse. The business is still running due to the fact that the owners make a profit out of it. Therefore, the only way to make the future brighter for these donkies is to spread the word around the world and make tourists stop contributing to this kind of animal abuse.
What will your signature contribute to?
We are in contact with an organisation (El refugio del Burrito) in Mijas that has given us the contact information for the local authorities. Our goal with the petition is to spread the word far and wide so people understand why they should not use the Burro Taxi and also to use it as negotiation power when dealing with those responsible.
Together we can stop the Mijas Burro Taxi and the torture of these poor donkies.
