Call for the University of Gothenburg to Declare Climate Emergency

The network of Gothenburg Students for Sustainability (GSSA) have called the University of Gothenburg to call for a climate emergency.

According to the latest IPCC report, we now have 11 years to cut emissions in half to reach the 1,5 degree goal to prevent a climate breakdown. This requires rapid and drastic action in all aspects of society. We need the University of Gothenburg to be frontrunners in the fight against climate change and to send a strong signal to its students and staff as well as the outside world. 

We want the university to incorporate sustainability education across all courses, allocate more resources to sustainability research and projects, and to cut CO2 emissions drastically by setting a carbon budget and divesting from fossil fuels.
We need the university to:

1. Declare climate emergency 
2. Communicate to all student and staff why this is necessary 
3. Act accordingly

Human-induced climate change is happening and its effects are being felt right now. It is well beyond time to act.
