I feel its totally wrong to kill this kitten she deserves to live she has a family that wants her

We do not murder humans for being blind, why would you murder an animal for the same thing.

Please please reconsider your actions about little Kelly. Blind cats and kittens can live full and happy lives with joy for both them and their owners. Homer is a wonderful example. Kelly is not suffering! Cats depend much on their hearing (their primary sense) and smell. They are happy to be petted and fed and have no trouble navigating in their homes. I am the parent of a legally blind son whose life was very full and joyful; cats are no different. Hoping you listen to all those whose lives have been enriched by blind kitties.

Please, please, please do not euthanize this beautiful sweet kitten Kelly. We have had a blind cat and can tell you first-hand that they not only can have a wonderful life, but they are so amazing in how they cope. Being blind is not a hindrance for them. It's also like their other senses are extremely heightened, and they understand humans and their environment more than you could ever imagine.

The first time our blind cat was in our home, he walked around exactly in the center of the hall (as if he had lived there for years). Navigating the rest of our home was no issue either. He loved us wholeheartedly and he loved the rest of our feline family. Indeed, he was the "glue" that held our feline family together. We were definitely blessed that he was in our life.

Please allow this sweet kitten to have a wonderous life and to bless the lives of all she comes into contact with.

Thank you,
Janet Stone

Please let Kelly live. Blindness should not be a death sentence.

Nancy Peterson (CO, 2021-07-20)

#9423

No innocent animal should die because it cannot see. This kitten has a chance to live with a wonderful family & be loved. Please let this little one go to a loving family to have a happy life. You cannot say that being blind is a reason to kill an animal. You would not do that to a blind person would you??

Lynn Costa (Warwick, 2021-07-20)

#9424

I implore you to spare the life of Kelly.

A blind cat can lead a completely normal life, it is not cruel, the animal is healthy and can live a full life, the Internet is full of examples of blind cats having a completely normal and happy life, please do not kill Kelly, she deserves to live happy.

Life is valuable and to be cherished. Despite cultural differences, I believe this to be a fundamental truth and one that is to be respected with ALL life, especially Kelly and all blind cats!

I am a cat owner, lover and a redeemed Christian woman! God gave us dominion over the animals and that was not to be taken lightly! God created them too, including Kelly, and nothing is too small for God to care about! Kelly is a happy, healthy, playful kitten who just happens to be blind. So what? She has had the love and care she’s needed to live a long, well-rounded cat life! Now you have taken that safe and secure home from her to put her in a “cold”, unknown environment! Was this so YOU could feel better about making this decision; because she wasn’t happy? How cruel! Please show her that humans can take to heart the fact that she IS happy and healthy and “oh yeah, by the way, she’s blind” but she doesn’t know that❣️❣️❣️!!!!😻😻😻

Jolene Mason (Brimfield , 2021-07-20)

Kelly has a right to live and the vets who treated her should be consulted.

#9438

Kelly is a blind kitten and she is going to be euthanised!!! Do we euthanise humans? No, why should a kitten be any different and besides, cats all over the world live happily without sight. Save Kelly and DO NOT EUTHANISE HER

Janet Clarke (Copdock, Ipswich, 2021-07-20)

#9441

Detta är riktigt orättvist mot denna katten som förtjänar det bästa! Jag som läst antrozoologi mellan katt och människan kan absolut inte se något problem kring en blind katt!

Alex Guerra (Malmö, 2021-07-20)

#9445

Please do not euthanise this kitten. She is still young enough for her other senses to compensate for her blindness and many blind kittens have gone on to have wonderful lives. A good example is the author Gwen Cooper´s cat Homer. This kitten has a good home to go to, so please let her go home!

Stephanie Peters (Trier, 2021-07-20)

I sign this petition because I have a cat who had his eyes removed because of an infection with herpes virus probably passed by his mother during birth. After the removal of the eyes, when he was a kitten, he adjusted perfectly well to my house, and is now a perfectly healthy, adjusted, playful and with lots of spunk and love to give around. It is very cruel to euthanize Kelly just because she does not see. It kind of reminds me that... are we euthanizing blind people? No! So why Kelly doesn't have the right to live? Please, please reconsider the decision and let Kelly live and go to her family, that will suffer if you implement that decision based on the advice of someone who doesn't know her.

Carla Frias (Oeiras, 2021-07-20)

All over the world there are blind people living everyday normal lives
This is exactly the same for dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals.
To say her or anyone's, life is meaningless just because of a disability is an outrage. Save Kelly she deserves her life and she deserves to be loved there is an army of us wanting to take her in and give her an amazing life, so let us!!!

Blind kittens adapt and live happy lives like any other kitten ,cat , puppy , dog any other blind animal . Putting her to sleep because she's blind is wrong , sparing her life is the morally right thing to do.

I have followed SO many rescues, the Blind Sanctuary being one and I see ABSOLUTELY NO REASON this precious kitten should be put down solely because she cannot see. You wouldn’t do this to humans. Animals adapt and sometimes have better sense of awareness than if they could see. DO NOT PUT THIS KITTEN DOWN! Let her be adopted!

På grund av att Kelly kan få ett normalt liv. Synen är bara en liten del av sinnena. De andra sinnena kommer att utvecklas lite mer. En stor kram till lillaKelly EN LEVANDE OCH PIGG KATTUNGE!

Sweden is just like China when it comes to animal rights. Swedish vets are ignorant and highly incompetent, and organisations like Länsstyrelsen corrupt and criminal. These people are MURDERERS! Please tell the civilised world about this Nazi-like concept that involves killing disabled and elderly pets, which is typically Swedish: it is in the DNA of this rotten country. Kelly can live a perfectly normal life, and only an uneducated Swedish troglodyte could think otherwise. It is immoral and criminal to murder this kitten, and whoever allows it is a sociopath who should be in an institution or in jail. Let people know all over the world about Sweden and its insane, unethical and murderous handling of innocent pets.

Blind cats can have rich, fulfilling lives. It is by no means a reason to euthanize a sentient living being.

Monica Kirchner (DENTON, 2021-07-21)

My late kitty, Min had only one eye and three legs. She was not only beautiful. loving and smart, but she could do anything any other kitty could do. Please understand that Kelly is wonderful just the way she is and I'm sure there are many people who would love to have her in their lives. Please know that she is not suffering and that she could live a long, happy life.

nancy pauken (watsonville, 2021-07-21)

#9506

I have owned 2 blind cats and they have lived wonderfully full, happy healthy lives. There is no reason to euthanize Kelly. She is capable of living a wonderful life. If you euthanize her, you might as well go kill all blind people! Would you do that? Of course not!

Susan Knoll (Columbus, 2021-07-21)

#9509

Little Kelly deserves to live. It makes no sense to end the life of such a healthy and thriving cat. It is clear she is doing well and happy. Sight is not the strongest sense in cats. I have known plenty of friends who have had blind cats and they were happy and lived long lives. To end this young cat's life is unacceptable! Especially when she has someone willing to care for her and give her the home she needs to live out her life. She loves to play and cuddle. There are many cats who are blind in loving homes. What you want to do is egregious. Please save Kelly and do not allow her euthanization.

I love cats. Gwen Cooper has shown through Homer's life, that a blind cat can live a happy & fulfilled life. A blind cat can be not only healthy and happy, but help its owner in times of extreme need as Homer did when he faced down an intruder in Gwen's home.

Anne Kelly (Ande, 2021-07-21)

#9522

I think it would be cruel to euthanise this cat. Blind cats can enjoy a very good quality of life; you wouldn’t euthanise a blind person!

Scarlett Watkins (London, 2021-07-21)

#9524

Kelly should absolutely NOT be euthanized, just because she's blind! Animals are adaptable, especially with the loving home she has lined up. Kelly is healthy. You don't euthanize blind humans. Please, let her go to her new home and live out the rest of her life with a loving family.

Please save Kelly. I have 5 blind cats and 4 seeing cats. They all enjoy hunting, climbing and playing and get so much love from eachother and us. They are outdoor animals who enjoy a large secure garden and they bring in lots of mice and shrews and enjoy everything a seeing cat does. Please send Kelly to us. Save her please!

I had a blind cat due to old age and he got along just fine for several years until his death at 23 or so. It would have been a shame to deprive him of the years he enjoyed just because he no longer could see. He enjoyed his food being held etc.

I am signing this petition because I believe this is a load of hog wash! Unbelievable that Sweden would take the position that a blind cat would be "suffering" and it would be better to be put down! Poppycock!

Just read "Homer, the Blind Wonder Cat" by Gwen Cooper and other books about blind kittens.

Sweden, come out of the stone age and get with the program. You are so far off the mark that it is astonishing. And here I thought that Sweden was progressive! NOT!

Let that Blind Kitten live...this has nothing to do with your government! Shocking!

I currently have a blind cat, she is the most entertaining cat we own. And we own three total. She plays fetch. Loves on us more then our other cats, so I don’t see the need to ever end this cats life because it is blind

I personally have known many blind cats who have adapted very well. They live long and happy lives as long as housecats. I am currently fostering a blind kitten for a local shelter and I couldn't bear it if someone said his life wasn't worth living.

#9558

This is incredibly cruel to euthanize an otherwise healthy animal. Papers and studies don’t reflect real life situations. This kitten has adjusted well and has a loving home waiting for her. Her family is obviously aware of her special needs. Would the case to euthanize be the same if she were a dog, or a human baby? I think to take this kitten away from everything and everyone she knows is cruel. She is healthy and many animals with disabilities have lived a wonderful life with people who love them. To base this decision off of a paper completely unrelated to this specific situation is ridiculous. So many animals don’t have loving homes. Kelly is not suffering I’m any way. Would you want someone to euthanize you just because you’re blind?
Do the right thing and give her the chance at a happy life and loving home.
Sincerely, the mom of 6 feline boys and lifelong animal lover

I rescued a kitten like Kelly who was marked to be euthenized the following morning. His name is Theodore, and at just 6 weeks of age he was blind. I never had a blind kitten. I was worried, but I knew he did not deserve death and he was so sweet, so outgoing, so happy. I set him up in a crate as his personal space and he learned his room so quickly. He ate his food. He drank his water. He used his litterbox. He played. Before I was ready he was ready to explore the entire room. He adapted completely. He met other cats. He plays with them, he cuddles with them. He climbs cat trees and sits in the windowsill "looking" outside. Not being able to see the sun does not stop him from feeling it's warmth. Not being able to see his toys does not make them any less exciting and fun to play with. Not being able to see his kitty friends does not stop him from chasing his adoptive sister around the room. Not being able to see his food does not stop him from getting excited and following me when he hears the can open. It does not stop him from enjoying the smell and the taste of his meals.

How is Theodore's existence cruel? Beyond conventional sight, what is Theodore missing? What is Kelly missing, other than sight? Other than the loving adoptive home ready to accept him with open arms? Other than the sound of a can of food opening, the excitement for food. Other than the jingle of a bell in a toy as it's chased across the floor. Other than the warmth of the sun in a windowsill at noon. What is cruel, is locking up a perfectly normal, healthy, loved kitten. What is cruel is ending his life for something out if his control, that he doesn't know or understand is perceived to be a defect. It is his life, and he would love to lead it.

Hello - I'm a happy, healthy, loved blind cat and just can't get my head around how this beautiful girl could even be considered for euthanasia. It's disgusting and the country should be ashamed of itself for allowing this to even get this far. Look at my social media to see how well and happy blind cats are - just like any other cat!!

Cats are very adaptable, especially kittens. This cat should not be killed because of her blindness. She can live a long, happy, healthy, and loved life.

A friend of mine has a blind cat with excellent quality of life. The cat is able to play, eat, lie in the sun, and cuddle with people and other cats just fine. Destroying an otherwise healthy cat for blindness is inhumane. It also sends a terrible message about the lives of blind humans.
